Mixx, the Crowd sourcing competitor for Digg has introduced a new feature on their website. Welcome Mixx Communities to the social media landscape. This new feature will offer an easy way to build a content community based on the items that interest you the most. The community and all of the technical function still reside on Mixx, but through the use of a sub domain (companyname.mixx.com) you can start the first step in branding this solution with your site.
Some of the features include:
- The ability to create custom content based on your interests – you can create tabs for your content, and then to help keep the content moving, and appear that it is frequently updated you can set tags to automatically update based on your desired content type.
- Sub-domains
- Your own image header or logo at the top
- Change the color scheme
- Prominently placed space for your editorial and/or promotional content
- Import existing tags – that means your community will be full of content the day you launch
Mixx has not only taken care of the Community owners, but in true social media style they have also taken care of the members of the community as well. Some of the new features include:
- Ability to take advantage of polls for your community
- Improved functionality when following comments
- Greater customization for the user experience
I think this is great step to add, creditable news and information in a crowd sourcing format to the existing social media arsenal. So what do you think will this be a valuable tool in your Social Media arsenal, and something that you will push out to your clients.
Frank
